The Rush seeks to feature poetry: sonnets & blank verse, plus fiction: micro fiction, non-fiction: social justice essays, vignettes with photography, & photography stories for its ongoing publication.

-Poetry: Sonnets and Blank Verse: 6 pages

-Fiction: Micro/Flash fiction: 300-500 words

-Non-Fiction: Social Justice essays: 1000 words

-Vignettes & Photography: Text should be 250 words. Please include the photography (you are the photographer) with your vignette (text and photo should be in a single file). We look for texts that use photos beyond their “illustrative” purpose; we want vignettes that converse with the photo and vice versa.

-Photo story (photography only): We welcome all themes from visual storytellers. We are looking for a cohesive body of work. However, this body of work does not need to be completed; your images can be from an ongoing project. Please submit up to 6 photos per photo story, and in a separate document (one-page min to two-page max) include the title and the Pictorial Story Idea or project description (you and your project).

-Photo Story Formatting: Photographs in a submission must be contained in a single .doc, .pdf, or .docx. Images should be submitted in low resolution; however, upon acceptance, images must be provided with a resolution of at least 300 dpi, or greater and as a .jpg that can be reproduced at 1,650 pixels wide.

-All written portions of your submission should be in Times New Roman 12-point type, with at least one-inch margins, and your pages should be sequentially numbered. Please include a page with your name, telephone number, location, and email address at the top of the first page. Please include a brief biographical note with your submission.

-Please include “Full Name” and “Submission Type” in the subject header:

Sor Juana Inés de La Cruz. Poetry-Sonnet

John Milton. Poetry-Blank Verse

Ernest Hemingway. Fiction-Micro Fiction

Muhammad Ali. Non-Fiction-Social Justice Essay

Franz Kafka. Vignette with Photo

Dorothea Lange. Photo Story

We look forward to reading your work!
